Wage: $35.60 per hour

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide guidance and supervision for store staff members as directed by the store manager and store owner.
- Supervise staff alongside the assistant manager to maintain a high-performance team.
- Serve as manager in manager’s absence and make key operational decisions.
- Hire or suggest the hiring of new full- or part-time sales personnel within assigned department(s), and provide training as required.
- Establish work schedules of full- or part-time sales personnel.
- Ensure cash reports and deposits balance daily.
- Take an active role in warehouse, inventory, merchandising, and sales activities to provide an example for employees and to maintain familiarity with all phases of store operations.
- Provide an environment that encourages high employee productivity and morale.
- Ensure that store fixtures, POS system, trucks, and other equipment are in proper condition to meet the store's operational needs.
- Identify current or foreseen operating situations and inform store manager in a timely manner to facilitate a solution.
- Suggest rule or policy changes to store manager when you think such changes would improve efficiency, morale, operations, profits, sales, etc.
- Be a positive role model by following company procedures.
Employee Relations:
- Facilitate and maintain communication between employees and store manager, owner(s), and assistant manager.
- Be responsive to employees who have questions and/or comments about their job responsibilities.
- Encourage employees to share their ideas and suggestions.
- Resolve employee complaints and problems.
- Take appropriate disciplinary action(s) when employees are guilty of violating company rules and/or policies.
- Act in a timely manner when taking disciplinary action or acknowledging positive behavior by employees; maintain records of such actions.
- Help with employee hiring, training, and ongoing development.
Customer Service:
- Greet and assist customers on the sales floor.
- Be aware of shoplifting and take action, consistent with company policy, to discourage it.
- Maintain good customer service through your presence on the sales floor by making effective use of your knowledge of products, projects, and services. Set a good example for other employees through your ability and desire to assist customers and to maximize sales.
- Resolve customer claims and/or complaints in a manner that is timely, courteous, and discreet.
- Authorize credit limits, acceptance of cheques, etc. in a manner consistent with company policy.
- In the absence of the store manager, exercise sound judgment in the event that a departure from store policy may be required.
- Resolve escalated customer complaints and service issues professionally.
Sales and Merchandising:
- Attend shows and markets as directed by the store manager.
- Ensure that the sales floor and sales staff are ready for all promotions.
- Understand and use merchandising techniques that produce the highest possible level of sales.
- Ensure that end-caps and feature displays are properly merchandised, maintained, and changed on a timely basis.
- Support marketing initiatives by overseeing promotions and in-store displays.
Safety and Compliance:
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
- Monitor loss prevention strategies and enforce safety procedures.
Additional Duties:
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Manage inventory levels, ensuring stock accuracy and product availability.
- Ensure financial reporting accuracy, including balancing deposits and tracking revenue performance during shifts.
- Report directly to the Store Manager and collaborate with the Assistant Manager.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of retail experience or experience in home maintenance and repair industry with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Some familiarity with products sold in a hardware store.
- Proven and strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Solid understanding of retail operations, customer service, and inventory control.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and make independent decisions.
- Experience working with POS systems (and experience with Prism POS systems preferred).
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 35 lbs, and climb ladders.
- Pesticide Dispenser Certificate from the Province of British Columbia, or proof that you are working towards obtaining such certification.
