Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Home Support Worker to care for an 80-year-old male client who has chronic kidney disease, heart condition, and diabetes. The ideal candidate will be able to support his medical, personal, and daily living needs while respecting his language (Punjabi) and cultural values.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide personal care: assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility support.
- Monitor vital signs, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and report changes or concerns.
- Administer medications as prescribed (or remind / assist with administration).
- Assist with medical routine schedules as required.
- Prepare and serve appropriate nutritious meals accommodating diet restrictions (diabetic, kidney diet).
- Assist with light housekeeping related to personal care: laundry, tidying, cleaning patient’s area.
- Assist with mobility (walking, transfers, use of assistive devices)
- Accompany or transport client to medical appointments or follow-up visits.
- Provide companionship, emotional support, and supervision.
- Maintain a safe environment (e.g. fall prevention, hazards).
- Communicate regularly with family or medical professionals about health status and needs
Education, Experience & Skills Requirements
- Completion of a health care aide / personal support worker / nursing assistant or related training program is an asset
- Prior experience caring for seniors, especially with complex medical conditions (kidney disease, cardiac issues, diabetes) is an asset
- Must demonstrate ability to care responsibly, patiently, and attentively for a senior with chronic illnesses
- Must speak Punjabi fluently (spoken & understood)
- Good communication skills and ability to follow medical instructions
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) — employer may cover upfront cost, to be reimbursed via payroll deduction
- Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) required before start
- Provide two references (preferably from prior care roles)
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work location: client’s private home in Surrey, BC
- Must be comfortable with moving/lifting, supporting mobility, or transfers as needed
- Non-smoking environment
- Occasional flexible hours (early morning, late evening, or weekends) may be required depending on care needs
Hours & Compensation
- Hours: Typically, 30–40 hours per week (Monday to Friday or per agreed schedule)
- Wage: $23.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
- Overtime and statutory holiday pay as per BC Employment Standards
- Vacation pay, benefits, and other entitlements according to BC labour law
- Training or certification reimbursement (e.g. CPR) may be advanced by employer and recouped via gradual payroll deduction
