Heavy Construction Equipment Operator

Job Location:

• Based in Calgary, AB, work in various locations in the Calgary area; transportation provided by the employer, travel expense paid by the employer if work is outside the city
• Parking available

Employment terms and conditions: Seasonal, full-time (30 to 60 hours per week, weather dependent), Early Morning, Morning, Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, Overtime required

Wage: $34-$37/hour (based on skills and experience/salary increases as per the company’s policy)

Job requirements:

Language: Basic English

Experience: 1 year of related experience

Area of Work: Fine grading and finishing, Rough grading, Asphalt finishing

Work Setting: Roads and bridges, Civil, Paving

Equipment used: Grader, Paver, Screed, Roller, Asphalt spreader

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Bending, crouching, kneeling, Attention to detail, Sitting for extended periods of time, Fast-paced environment

Work Site Environment: Outdoors

Personal Suitability: Dependability, Team player, Accurate

Own Tools and Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Duties:

• Grader Operator will level and spread material such as dirt and gravel to achieve the required fine grading and finishing.
• Screed Operator will lay, spread, and level hot mix asphalt on roads and other surfaces. They will operate asphalt hand controls and set up auto sensors to achieve the appropriate grade on the finished surface.
• Operate GPS machine-control systems on graders
• Roller Operator will compact freshly laid asphalt to the desired finishing.
• Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
• Operate computer-controlled equipment
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
• Secure special attachments to equipment
• Must participate and adhere to all safety rules and procedures
