POSITION
Part-time teacher - Nursing (Fall 2025)


The College is seeking a part-time professor (Clinical Instructor) to teach credited courses (clinical) within the Nursing program in the Fall 2025.


180-A51-HR Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing – 3 Clinical positions
This course introduces foundational concepts in the care of individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on comprehensive mental health assessments, therapeutic communication techniques, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment approaches for mental illnesses. Students will explore ethical and legal considerations, personal and professional values, and conflict resolution strategies while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in mental health care settings. Clinical experiences take place in hospital and community-based environments that support individuals with mental health conditions. To enhance critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, students engage with simulated patients and virtual reality scenarios, creating immersive, interactive learning experiences in psychiatric and mental health nursing.

Mondays and Tuesdays day/evening rotation; September 2nd to October 7th, 2025, with availability to the College as of August 18th, 2025, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (10 shifts)

180-A56-HR Geriatric Nursing - 2 clinical positions
This course examines key concepts in geriatric, gerontology, and palliative care nursing, emphasizing comprehensive assessment, therapeutic nurse-patient relationships, and the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of aging. Students develop advanced assessment and intervention skills, including specialized wound care for older adults and palliative patients. Care across the lifespan is explored, addressing the complex health needs of older adults with multiple comorbidities. Ethical, legal, and professional considerations, along with interdisciplinary collaboration, are integrated throughout. Clinical experiences take place in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and other care settings. High-fidelity simulation and virtual reality enhance critical thinking and decision-making in complex geriatric and palliative care scenarios.

56 082 $ - 108 008 $


DESCRIPTION:
The Heritage College Nursing Program provides a part-time, three-year RN competency-based diploma program. Given that nursing is a practice-based profession, we believe that clinical experience is a vital and integral component of the curriculum, providing students with hands-on opportunities to practice their nursing skills under direct supervision of their clinical instructor. The clinical instructor supports student learning, liaises with assigned nurses in a clinical unit and collaborates with the Faculty Team Leader. The clinical instructor role is an essential and powerful component of nursing education.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend clinical instructor and student hospital orientation for all positions.
  • Attend and assist students with skills lab when clinical groups are in a Lab environment or using the Simulation Lab.
  • Support student learning:
  1. Select appropriate patient assignment as per clinical pedagogy.
  2. Direct supervision and monitor student performance in clinical setting;
  3. Organize pre-post conferences online;
  4. Review and offer weekly written and verbal feedback of student learning objectives;
  5. Review and discuss student midterm self-assessments;
  6. Assess student progress and complete final student evaluations;
  7. Ensure completion of student clinical assignments and assess competency as per rubric within the given time frame;
  8. Liaise with faculty to ensure coherence across class;
  9. Conduct midterm and final evaluation with students.
  • Collaborate with course faculty: ensure ongoing communication with course team leader.
  • Attend weekly student progress meetings online.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and several years of teaching experience at the university or college level is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Pediatric Nursing Experience and Mental Health Nursing.
  • Fluency in English , both oral and written is required.
  • Knowledge of software as per program requirements is necessary.
  • Must be a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Hold an OIIQ (Ordre des infirmiers et infirmières du Québec) license for all Quebec placements.
